Natalie Cole, whose hit songs included the duet Unforgettable with her father Nat "King" Cole, has died aged 65. The Grammy-winning singer died on Thursday night at a hospital in Los Angeles, her publicist told the Associated Press news agency.

She rose to fame as an R&B artist with tracks such as This Will Be and Inseparable. The singer had recently cancelled a series of performances, including one on New Year's Eve.


"Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived... with dignity, strength and honour. Our beloved mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain unforgettable in our hearts forever,'' said a statement from her son Robert Yancy, and sisters, Timolin and Casey Cole.

Two people were killed and seven were wounded in an apparent shooting attack in a central Tel Aviv pub this afternoon. A massive manhunt is underway for the assailant.

The police have identified an Israeli Arab resident of a village in the northern area of Wadi Ara as the suspect. The suspect, 29, stole the gun from his father, who works in security. The father recognized the suspect from media reports, and after learning his weapon was gone, contacted the authorities. 

Two of the casualties are in serious condition, while the rest sustained light injuries. 

There is a growing consensus among security officials that the shooting was a terrorist attack. After holding a situation assessment, security officials warned civilians to remain alert as police special forces and the Shin Bet security service search for the assailant. 

The attack occurred at the Simta pub on Dizengoff 122, near the corner of Gordon St. One of people killed was identified as Alon Bakal, a manager at the pub. Bakal had moved to Tel Aviv three months ago after completing law and business studies in Netanya. The other was identified as Shimon Ruimi, 30, a resident of Ofakim. May their souls rest in peace.

Nicholas-Okoh New Year advice to Nigerians The Anglican Primate, Reverend Nicholas Okoh, has called on Nigerians to embrace integrity, restore values and shun corruption in the New Year.



According to him, a nation that seeks God’s blessings cannot continue to dwell in corruption and other vices and expect to receive the blessings.

At a New Year service in Abuja on Friday, The primate urged citizens to make integrity a watchword for 2016.

“One thing that we can get from God is integrity. Let us rebuild our integrity as a people. Let us restore value to our society. When it is restored, we will behave better. You will not do things that are unimaginable in order to get money.

“When we restore values, the common good of the society will be paramount in our mind,” he said.

It is the first sermon for the year in the Cathedral and understandably, the hall is full with worshipers who want to start the year on a religious note.

It is a common thing for most Christians around the globe to mark the beginning of every year in churches, praying and hoping for a better year ahead of them.

Another Priest supervising the Anglican Church in Maitama, Benjamin Idume, urged Nigerians to contribute positively to the progress of the nation.

“God; in Him our problems will come to an end. Everyone is called upon to contribute positively to the progress of this country.

“Wherever God has put you, as a politician, civil servant, teacher and in different families, everyone is called upon to make sure that he or she brings positive contribution for the progress of this country,” he stressed.

For the former Minister of Lands Housing and Urban Development, Amal Pepple, Nigerians should have faith in the current administration.

“We should have faith in the new government that God has given to us.

“They are preaching a message of change and let us believe that in the new year there will be change in our economy, family lives and in our relationships with one another,” the former Minister stated.

Reuters: China creates three new military units in push to modernize army

China has created three new military units and will update equipment as well as modernizing its command structure, state media said on Friday, as part of a major overhaul of the armed forces announced by President Xi Jinping in November.

Xi's push to reform the military coincides with China becoming more assertive in its territorial disputes in the East and South China Seas. China's navy is investing in submarines and aircraft carriers and its air force is developing stealth fighters.

At a ceremony on Thursday, Xi inaugurated a new general command unit for the army, a missile force and a strategic support force for People's Liberation Army (PLA), state news agency Xinhua said.

Keenyatta Robinson refuses to give her dough to Domino's Pizza after discovering a vulgar note on two receipts. Robinson's daughter recently ordered a pizza from a Domino's in West Bloomfield, Michigan. When she saw the receipt, something bothered her (and it wasn't the price of the pie).

On the receipt were three words, two of them offensive: "f*** this c***".

"I don't understand why they would treat me this way," Robinson said.

Robinson decided to see if it was an accident, so she placed another order. Continue...


"When I came to pick it up that receipt had the same vulgar language," she said.

Robinson believes the receipts are in retaliation for the time in 2014 when she complained about not getting the sausage pizza she ordered.

The manager told her she would no longer be served, and she complained to his superiors. Ronnie Asmar, Director of Operations at Domino's, said that manager was later terminated, in part, for being rude to customers.

"His parting gift to us was putting that vulgar comment in her phone number's notes," Asmar said.

Apparently, no one noticed the comment until Robinson pointed it out.



Asmar has tried to apologize to her and offered a gift certificate to make it up to her, but Robinson refuses to accept it -- ever. "I will never eat here again," Robinson said. "Ever in my lifetime," as she walked away. Surprised she is not suing. E no dey tey them.
